GOTV 2024: THe FINaL PUSH!
CANVASSES, OCT. 26 - NOV. 5
We Can WIN. But we HAve to talk to voters, y’all!
CANVASSING
Knocking on doors is the most effective thing you can do to increase Democratic voter turnout in key districts!
Thank you for signing up!
Here’s what to expect.
We’re offering group canvass launches on Saturdays and Sundays. Weekday canvasses will be less formal and won’t feature a group launch. You’ll receive an email from C2C Canvasses (canvasses@countytocountync.org) the evening before each canvass shift you’ve signed up for with all the details.
Remember: you must canvass with a partner. See information below on how to connect with someone for weekday canvasses.
GROUP CANVASSES (WEEKENDS)
Come join the fun with fellow Democratic volunteers as we talk to voters about fantastic candidates for NC House and NC Senate. The evening before a canvass, you’ll receive an email from C2C (canvasses@countytocountync.org). That email will give you all the information you need about our canvass, including any meetups to caravan from Chapel Hill and where we’ll be launching. We will have experts on site to train you at these weekend canvasses, so if you’re new to canvassing this is the place for you to learn the ropes!
WEEKDAY CANVASSES
Sign up for a shift during GOTV week, October 28 - November 1. You can choose to canvass for Dante Pittman in Wilson, NC (sign up here) or for Lisa Grafstein and Safiyah Jackson in Fuquay-Varina (sign up here). Please indicate which day you will be canvassing so we can prepare enough materials.
These canvasses are less formal and will not have a group launch. While these canvasses are designed more for people who have canvassed before or who have an experienced partner, if you’re new to canvassing and would like to join, please email us at canvasses@countytocountync.org and we’ll help.
Here’s how it will work:
Sign up on C2C’s website for the day and place you’d like to canvass.
The day before your canvass, you will receive detailed instructions via email from canvasses@countytocountync.org. But detailed guidelines are below.
If you do not already have someone to canvass with (if you need a partner), let us know by replying to the instructions email. We will connect you with a fellow canvasser. Reminder: you MUST canvass with a partner - we cannot send canvassers out alone.

General guidelines for C2C Canvassers
Canvassing is the most effective way to reach NC voters during this crucial Get Out The Vote (GOTV) timeframe. And it is fun! Below are some guidelines we ask you to follow to keep everyone safe and to make sure we are respecting all voters in the process. More FAQs are located below some of these tips.
Some Additional FAQs:
-
No Trespassing MEANS No Trespassing. Respect No Trespassing signs. Mark the property as inaccessible and put “No Trespassing Sign” in the notes field.
Canvassing is protected free speech and “No Soliciting” signs do not apply. However, use your judgment on “No Soliciting” signs, as most homeowners don’t appreciate a lesson on why canvassing doesn’t apply to their sign. While you should feel free to ignore “No Soliciting” signs posted at the front of a neighborhood or apartment complex, if someone has a “No Soliciting” sign directly on their door, please use your judgment. If someone (landlord or HOA board member, for example) asks you to leave a development, you should do so, but don’t mark the turf as inaccessible; we’ll send someone back there later.
-
Mark the person on your list as “Not Home.” You may add any information about your conversation in the Notes field, but please make sure you are only entering data about the person on your list.
-
YES! If you indicate in the Notes field that a voter has a question for the campaign, the will respond! This is the benefit of working with local candidates!
-
Nonprofit organizations are 501c(3) organizations under the US tax code. To maintain this status, these organizations must remain nonpartisan, so we should avoid anything that will associate them with a partisan activity, such as canvassing for Democratic candidates.
-
For your safety, and to protect C2C and our partner candidates, please do not accept an invitation to go inside. We know this can be difficult in certain situations and in certain cultures. However, you may just say “Oh, I’m not allowed to come in while I’m canvassing; may we speak outside?”
