HOUSE DISTRICT 73
ABOUT HD 73
Sitting entirely within Cabarrus County, House District 73 is a fast-growing area to the northeast of Charlotte. House District 82 sits in Cabarrus County as well (to the south of District 73), as does part of House District 83 (to the north). Cabarrus County is home to several towns of substantial size, including Concord, Kannapolis, and Harrisburg.
In 2022, this district was newly-drawn and was one of the most hotly contested NC House races: Rep. Staton-Williams won her seat by a total of 629 votes. Redrawn again by the NC Republican Legislature in 2023, this district now leans Republican (43.8% Democrat; 53.4% Republican; 2.7% Other) and will again be a hard-fought race.
There is a Republican primary to decide who will run against Diamond in the 2024 general election. Republicans Holly Edwards and Jonathan Almond will face each other on March 5, 2024 to determine who will be on the November ballot.
